DNA/Protein Synthesis Project

Objective: To create an accurate model of DNA or a project that teaches about the scientific discoveries leading to the discovery of the structure and function of DNA. Or, to create a project which accurately represents the processes of Protein Synthesis.

Materials: Any legal substance available to you.

Procedure: Be as creative as you can. This will not only be counted as a quiz grade but you will also be able to win extra credit points on the DNA test. Voting will be held during class to pick the best project. (You will not be allowed to vote for your own!)

What you can do: Any of the following types of projects are acceptable:

• A 3-D model of DNA with a key or labels.
• A diagrama about the scientists/discoveries or protein synthesis.
• A poster about the scientists/discoveries or protein synthesis.
• A book about the scientists/discoveries or protein synthesis.
• A short documentary movie about the scientists/discoveries or protein synthesis.
• A game about the scientists/discoveries or protein synthesis that can be played.
• A puzzle book that is informative and educatonal about the scientists/discoveries or protein synthesis.
• A puppet show presented to the class about the scientists/discoveries or protein synthesis.

Any other ideas that you have should be OK’d by me before you begin completing it.

Your grade: The project is worth 80 points based on the following:

Informative, detailed and accurate: 40 points.

Well designed, neat and organized: 20 points

Creative, colorful – demonstrates

A lot of work and effort.20 points

Total Points: 80 points

Extra points available for presenting to the class: 5points

Extra points available for winning best design:5 points

Extra points available for winning most informative: 5 points

Be creative and express yourself. Enjoy yourself while doing this project. Refer to Chapter 7 in your text for assistance or to www.accessexcellence.org use their Graphics Gallery for help!
