INNOVATIVE PHYSICS CURRICULUM
AND
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
FOR
PHYSICS TEACHERS
You have accessed the Goals 2000 web page for the development of cutting edge physics lessons. Funded through a GOALS 2000 grant from the Michigan Department of Education, Mt. Pleasant High School physics teacher Jim Gormley and Central Michigan University physics professors Dr. Alan Jackson, Dr. Stan Hirschi, and Dr. Didar Islam have developed a plan to integrate current research topics in physics into the high school classroom. New and intriguing research topics have been identified and supplemental physics lessons have been developed in order to increase student interest in the study of physics as a career. A professional development workshop has been completed during the summer of 1998 to acquaint high school physics teachers with the lessons. These teachers will pilot these lessons in their classes during the 1998-99 school year. These lessons are now being posted.
These lessons are available for use in your physics classrooms. If you download these and use them, please evaluate their usefulness and send a response to Jim Gormley at the address below. This will allow for continuous evaluation of the lessons.
